Hello! I’m Esme Benjamin, a writer, editor, and broadcaster based in New York City. I like to write about all the ways humans try to create better, more meaningful lives for themselves. You can find my work in publications like ELLE, Condé Nast Traveler, Refinery29, SELF, and Well&Good.

Welcome to my corner of the internet: The Legacy Years.

What is The Legacy Years?

The Legacy Years is a newsletter and podcast designed to help women navigate the era when their career ambitions and biological clock collide.

Our thirties lay the groundwork for the rest of our lives. Whether we decide to birth a baby, a business, a book, or something else entirely, it is a decade that asks big questions about what we want to nurture. It forces us to grapple with the future repercussions of the things we prioritize or sacrifice here and now.

With the help of insightful women (from best-selling authors to career coaches) sharing vulnerable life experiences, The Legacy Years explores the questions that whir around your brain at 3 AM. Questions like:

  • Should I freeze my eggs?

  • Is it too late to change my career at this point?

  • Can I be a mother and still succeed at work?

  • How can I maintain my friendships when all my friends are having babies?

  • When will I meet my person?

  • Will my achievements ever satisfy the scale of my ambition?

  • What does the future look like if I don’t end up having a child?

  • How do I get out of my own way and finish the book/launch the business/start the project?

  • Can I afford to have another child - financially, emotionally, physically?

What can I expect if I subscribe?

A new post every couple of weeks* Sometimes it will be a podcast episode, complete with excerpts and valuable takeaways. Other times, my own written musings on topics related to meaning-making and identity.

Right now, subscribing is free! But if you do feel moved to make a contribution to The Legacy Years, you can find me on Venmo (thank you, you angel).

*I am a mother to a one-year-old girl in daycare and we are approaching plague season, so please bear with me if the schedule sometimes gets thrown off by sickness or unforeseeable chaos.

Thank you for being here!
